American Offers Double Elite-Qualifying Miles
Those of you who are already loyal to American Airlines when you fly, whether for business or pleasure, will now have one more reason to like American. The airline has announced they’ll be offering double the normal number of elite status miles to customers who fly from now until mid-December, making it easier to reach elite status and therefore earn more rewards.
For American Airlines, American Eagle, or AmericanConnection flights taken between September 2 and December 15, 2009, you can earn twice the usual elite status qualifying miles. So if you’re already an American customer, you might be able to jump up to AAdvantage Gold, Platinum, or Executive Platinum more quickly this year.
In order to achieve elite status, AAdvantage Gold members must fly 25,000 elite-qualifying miles in a calendar year. For Platinum status, it’s 50,000 miles and for Executive Platinum it’s 100,000. The perks vary depending on the status level, but include things like entry into American’s airport lounges and more flight upgrades.
This ability to earn double the elite-qualifying miles from now until mid-December is a good opportunity to boost your earning potential on flights you’re already taking, and is pretty good incentive to choose American over another airline if you’re close to an elite level.
