Denver Trails
The city of Denver, Colorado offers the best “trail” system for bikers, hikers, joggers and walkers that I am aware of in the United States. The paved trails stretch for miles along the banks of the Platte River, just minutes from downtown. I would recommend a morning or after work jog for anyone visiting Denver. It beats the heck out of jogging on the treadmill in the hotel fitness center.
The Denver Trails website offers quite a lot of information on the extensive trail system, although it takes a better person than me to decipher that information. You can rent a bike at the Bike Doctor located downtown, but not at REI like the guy at the hotel told me.
It is only a few miles from downtown to the river, so transportation in between shouldn’t be a problem. If you’re on foot, you can take the Free Mall Shuttle from the downtown area to save yourself about a mile of walking.
