Derby Week in Kentucky – May 1 to May 6, 2007
Here we are in the middle of Derby Week in Kentucky, with the upcoming 133rd running of the Kentucky Derby. The race will be held on May 5, 2007. Events include things such as the air show and a fireworks extravaganza, the Kentucky Derby Festival Fashion Show, the Meijer Derby Festival Marathon and miniMarathon, The Fillies Derby Ball, The Mint Jubilee Gala Fundraiser, he Grand Gala and the Barnstable-Brown Gala.
The Galt House Hotel, the official hotel of the derby, features daily events:
On May 1, the Galt House Hotel turns into a carpet of roses, as thousands of the red blooms are cut and arranged for each of the 1,300 guest rooms that receive a dozen roses for Derby weekend.
On May 2 at 11 a.m., Kentucky Derby winning jockeys Bill Boland and Raymond York will be honored by induction into Gallop to Glory: A Tribute to Derby-Winning Jockeys with their handprints and signature forever in concrete outside the main lobby of the Galt House. They will join the display that honors jockeys including Pat Day, Jerry Bailey, Mike Smith and Edgar Prado who rode Barbaro to victory in 2006.
On May 3, the Galt House Hotel is the host of the Churchill Downs press party for Kentucky Derby 133.
