Hotel Coffee Supplies
As I sit in the Sheraton writing this post and making my morning coffee, I am reminded of my BIGGEST pet peeve in the hotel world (besides the fact that many hotels don’t recycle the several hundred newspapers they distribute each day). It’s the hotel coffee supplies, namely the ones that are pre-packaged. The standard seems to be 2 sugars, one sweet-n-low, 2 creamers, 2 stir sticks and a napkin. So for me to make two cups of coffee (which I do enjoy in the morning if I have time), I have to open BOTH packages just to get out the 2 sweet-n-lows, 1 stir stick and 4 creamers. The rest of it goes in the trash. If I drink tea, I’m only using one sweetener. Still, the rest goes in the trash. Is there some sort of reasoning or standard that I am unaware of? Why not have several of the individual packages of each thing, you can get individually wrapped stir sticks, too. Put them in a nice container and let the drinker choose which they use without having to waste the rest.
It just seems like a wasteful way to do business. Wouldn’t individual packaging save a lot of dough in the course of a year? Not to mention reducing the INSANE amount of landfill fodder hotels create.
