Las Vegas Transportation – Monorail
The Las Vegas Monorail Co., the privately owned monorail system based in Las Vegas, recently received governmental approval to extend service to include McCarran International Airport. The end of the line is currently at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino. The extension will include 5 new stops, ending with Terminal 1 and the planned Terminal 3 at the airport. In order to fund the extension, the firm must raise the money privately, as no public money will be used. I’m sure it won’t be much trouble to secure the funds for businesses in the area of the proposed stops.
The company expects to begin extending the system by 2011. The monorail currently charges $5 for a single fare for points between the MGM Grand and the Sahara Hotel and Casino. I’m here to tell you it’s a pretty slow ride at this point, but much easier than renting a car.
