New York City Free Musuem Admission
New York City has a plethora of museums and if you’re in the city at the right time, you can see them for FREE. Double check by contacting the museum to make sure times listed haven’t changed. If you’re around on a Friday evening and you want to see some great museums, you’re in luck. Many of the major destinations in the city have free admission on Fridays between 6:00ish and 8:00ish.
- American Folk Art Museum: Free on Friday after 5:30.
- Asia Society and Museum: Free on Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm (except July 4 to Labor Day).
- Bronx Zoo/Wildlife Conservation Park: Free on Wednesday (except during special events).
- Brooklyn Botanic Garden: Free Saturday from 10:00 to noon and all day Tuesday. Free from mid-November to February.
- Brooklyn Museum: Free after 5:00 on 1st Saturday of the month. A.k.a they don’t want you to visit for free.
- Center for Jewish History: Always free.
- Cloisters: No free admission, but includes same day admission to the Met.
- El Museo del Barrio: Free all day on Thursday and Saturday.
- Ellis Island Immigration Museum: Free every day (but ferry transportation will cost you)
- Frick Collection: Pay what you want on Sunday from 11:00 to 1:00.
- Gabarron Foundation Carriage House Center for the Arts: Always free.
- Goethe Institute New York: Always free.
- Harbor Defense Museum: Always free.
- Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion Museum: Always free.
- International Center of Photography: Pay what you wish on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00.
- Jewish Museum: Pay what you wish on Saturday.
- Manhattan Art & Antiques Center: Always free.
- Metropolitan Museum of Art: No free admission, but same day admission to the Cloisters.
- Museum of Arts & Design: Free on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00.
- Museum of Chinese in the Americas: Free on Friday.
- Museum of Modern Art: Free on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00.
- Museum of the City of New York: Free on Sunday from 10:00 to noon.
- Museum of the Moving Image: Gallery free on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00.
- National Museum of the American Indian, George, Gustave Heye Center, Smithsonian Institute: Always free.
- New York Botanical Garden: Free all day Wednesday and Saturday from 10:00 to noon.
- New York Historical Society: Free on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00.
- Noguchi Museum: Free on the first Friday of each month.
- Statue of Liberty Museum: Always free.
- Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum: Free on Friday from 5:45 to 7:45.
- Studio Museum in Harlem: Free on the first Saturday of the month.
- Whitney Museum of American Art: Free on Friday from 6:00 to 9:00.
