San Antonio Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas
San Antonio, Texas has the most beautiful Riverwalk I’ve ever seen. Ours in Little Rock is desolate in comparison to the Texas version, although we do have MILES of walking/bike tracks available crossing the Big Dam Bridge.
The San Antonio Riverwalk is lined with bars restaurants and hotels, as well as beautiful bridges and palm trees. I had the opportunity to eat at Casa Rio, which boasted a HUGE expanse of riverside real estate, as well as fantastic margaritas. I regret that I wasn’t able to visit any of the other fine establishments in the area on this trip, such as Durty Nelly’s Pub. I probably need a t-shirt from that place.
Riverboat tours are available highlighting the rich history of the river and the area. The tours are about 40 minutes and under $10 for an adult. This is a good after work option for business travelers, as the tours run at night as well as during the day.
While the Riverwalk is a great place for nightlife, it is also a wonderful spot for walking or jogging in the morning. I can’t think of a better way to start your day than to work up a sweat on the banks of the river. The area is only STEPS away from the Alamo, so it would be easy to stop by for a few drinks after your tour through Texas history. Be aware, the river smells a lot like a fish bowl. Seriously. Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it in a jiffy. (Although, I guess I’m not allowed to talk about the way places smell now that I live in New Jersey :))
There are several trolley stops a stones throw from the water, although it is easily within walking distance of anyplace downtown.
