Travel-Vaccines.Com Travel Vaccine Information
Sanofi Pasteur has a new web site to help travelers prepare by providing information about travel-related infectious diseases and
immunization recommendations. So you can find out what shots you need BEFORE you visit your travel doctor. The website www.travel-vaccines.com, is intended to provide information on travel-related infectious diseases.
According to the companies research, fewer than 10% of travelers seek pre-travel information about potential health-risks. Come on, you know better than that. I always look in to the potential threat for any country I visit. That’s how I know I’m NOT going to end up with malaria from all of those mosquito bites I received during my recent trip to the Costa Rica Pacific Coast.
More than 40% of travelers develop health problems, mostly gastrointestinal symptoms (like Montezuma’s Revenge), but also respiratory symptoms, skin disorders or febrile episodes. That sounds gross. Depending on the destination, duration and purpose of the trip, the risks of infection will vary. For example, 30 to 60% of travelers to developing countries develop travelers’ diarrhea, which is by far the most common disease experienced by travelers. I’ll buy that. I was one of three people (out of sixteen) who DIDN’T get sick on my Habitat for Humanity trip to Thailand. Yellow Fever is the only vaccine that is sometimes required for travel to a country, but some other vaccines (like Hepatitis) are just good practice.
Travel-vaccines.com gives travelers information from health authorities like the World Health Organization and the US CDC.
