U.S. Embassy in Paris

When you travel, the last thing you want to do is get in a situation where you need the help of your country’s embassy to get you out of a jam. But if you do get into just such a sticky situation, then you want to be prepared and not panicked. Which is why we occasionally let you know where U.S. embassies are in big cities around the world. This time, we’re talking about the U.S. Embassy in Paris.

The U.S. Embassy in Paris was the first overseas embassy the country had, and former Ambassadors include the likes of Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. So this is an embassy with a rich history. The building that houses the U.S. Embassy in Paris is called The Chancery, and it was built in 1931 after the original U.S. Embassy in Paris was torn down. You may never know it was a 20th century building, however, as the facade conforms to the design of all the neighboring buildings.

The Chancery building is located on the famous Place de la Concorde – it’s near the Champs-Elysees gardens and the Hotel de Crillon. A map of the embassy’s location, as well as the address and hours, are below.

Adult passport services: Monday-Friday 9:00am-10:00am
Child (under 16) passport services: Monday-Friday 10:00am-11:00 & Wednesdays 1:30pm-3:00pm
Notarial services for U.S. citizens: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays 1:30pm-3:00pm
Notarial services for non-U.S. citizens: Mondays 1:30pm-3:00pm

Also note that there are strict rules about what you can and can’t bring into the U.S. Embassy in Paris – read them before you arrive, because they don’t even let you bring backpacks into the embassy.
