Washington D.C.’s Bike to Work Day – May 18, 2007
Today is Bike to Work Day in Washington D.C. Event organizers, including ICF International, estimate more than 6,000 people will will leave their cars at home and cycle to their jobs in Maryland, Virginia and the capitol city today. There will be 26 pit stops throughout the region for the use of the riders. This event is to encourage reduced vehicle emissions in the area. For the rest of you, maybe you’ll notice lighter than usual traffic on your commute since everyone else is being ecologically responsible and pedaling to work.
Freedom Plaza, at 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, will be the location of the final rally. Local government leaders, including Washington, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty will be on hand and address the public. This event is free and open to riders and non-riders alike.
Have fun out there!
